The 10 movies I can't wait to watch with Michael as he grows up

As the entertainment editor, I have to put the movie reviews in our weekly entertainment section.
Today, thanks to its upcoming rerelease in 3D, I was reminded of "Finding Nemo."
If you haven't seen it, you're cheating yourself. Not only is it one of the finest movies Disney and Pixar have put out, it's one of the most enjoyable movies of all time.
While I was editing the column, I thought about Michael. Someday we're going to watch it together.
I've thought about other movies that I'm going to enjoy watching with Michael as he gets older. But some of these movies, like "The Sting," "Jaws" and "The Shawshank Redemption," we'll have to wait a bit to watch together. Plus, I don't know that he'll particularly enjoy those movies.
But watching some kids movies with Michael will be such a blast. Here are the 10 Movies I can't wait to watch with Michael as he grows up.

10 "The Goonies"

OK, I'll talk. Every kid dreams he has an adventure like Mikey, Chunk and Data. Every boy in the 80s compared the girls in their class to Andy. Every boy in the 80s lived in fear of the woman down the street who might have been the inspiration for Mama Fratelli. Lastly, every boy hopes to have a friend like Sloth. Someday, Michael and I will be yelling, "Hey, You Guys" on the couch and it will be the best day ever.
9 "Home Alone"

Store Manager: Where do you live?
Kevin McAlister: I can't tell you that.
Store Manager: Why not?
Kevin McAllister: Because you're a stranger.
See, this movie even has morals and life lessons. It also has parents very similar to Michael: Very forgetfull. So this really could have life lessons for him.

8 Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

I'll probably end up showing this to him too early in his life. But it's too fun to wait until he's 8 or 9.
I can picture us sword-fighting on the couch. I apologize in advance to Molly for any Belleek we break.

7 Star Wars

Originally, I thought this would be No. 1. Then I realized we already watched it. When he was 3 months old and when he was 6 months old. Sure he won't remember then, but I'm also sure he'll watch this without me because so many of his relatives are "Star Wars" freaks.

6 "Raiders of the Lost Ark"

If adventure has a name it must be .. Indiana Jones. My favorite movie hero as a kid will passed down to Michael. We'll be humming the theme song for weeks. Hopefully we'll find it on the big screen somewhere like The Strand or The Majestic.

5 "Finding Nemo"

It's a story about a father searching for his son and learning to let him grow up. It's a guarantee that Michael will at some point say, "Dad, why are you crying?" We might have to do a double feature, with "Toy Story" to follow.

4 Field of Dreams

I like to think Moonlight Graham is the closest to my heart of any movie character. He adores his wife. He's a romantic. He's an optimist. He's a dreamer, but a realist. He's got perspective. He's a great storyteller. I know I'm not as good a man as Archibald is, but I'd like to think that when I'm 75, I've had as good a life.

3. Marry Poppins

Sure, I could have picked "Pinocchio" or "The Wizard of Oz," but I had reasons for leaving them off this list. I consider "Wizard" to be a holiday movie since it's always on the holidays (So, like "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and "A Christmas Story," it will be on another list.) I left Pinocchio off this list, despite it being my favorite classic Disney movie, as a protest of Disney always pulling movies from the shelves. So "Marry Poppins" is a fine substitute. Also, much like "Star Wars" and "Nemo" we can watch it at an early age. 2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Yes, the later films were better movies, but for a child this is going to be the most magical. And this will be one of those movies he'll watch over and over with his mother. But I think Molly already has plans for the first showing, including homemade pumpkin pasties, butterbeer and such.

"1. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial"

This was my first father's day gift from Molly. It was the perfect gift because, not only do I love this movie, but it's something any child can relate to.
